Sagittarius, the ninth sign in the Zodiac, is named with the Latin word for “archer”. The Babylonians identified Sagittarius as the war god Nergal, a centaur-like creature armed with bow and arrow. In Greek mythology, Sagittarius is associated with Chiron, the noble and wise centaur, and teacher to many great Greek heroes such as Jason, Achilles, and Heracles.
