This coin is engraved after the Aztec Sun Stone, a representation of the five eras of the sun from Aztec mythology. After the Spanish conquest, the monolithic sculpture was buried in the Zócalo, the main square of Mexico City. It was rediscovered on 17, December 1790 during repairs on the Mexico City Cathedral.
The reverse featuresĀ our Moon's surface texture atĀ a geographically (technically it's selenographically) correctĀ 91,196,160:1 scale.
This heavyĀ fine silver worry stone feels good in the hand and the pocket. The thickĀ silver coin blank is pre-tumbledĀ before minting for a smooth edge and then given an antiqued finish.
